Painting. San Sebastián

Ramón Zuriarrain was born in San Sebastián in 1948. Despite initially reading Architecture, he
trained as an artist at the School of Fine Arts in Paris.
In the seventies he joined forces with the group of Surrealist painters that included Vicente
Ameztoy, Juan Luis Goenaga and Marta Cárdenas. He would subsequently turn to abstraction,
producing large-scale works characterised by chromatic contrasts and neat gestural surface
marks. Landscapes and portraits are his favourite genres, for they enable him to create
expressive and evocative scenarios that reflect his exquisite sensitivity and careful execution.
