Sculpture, Painting, Drawing. San Sebastián

José Zugasti was born in Eibar in 1952. In 1970 he moved to Madrid to train as an artist,
initially with the painter José Luis Azparren and subsequently at the Higher School of Fine Arts
of San Fernando.
Back in the Basque Country, he settled in San Sebastián and in the eighties devoted himself
chiefly to painting, paying special attention to surfaces and materials. However, after 1985
sculpture would become his usual means of expression. Focusing on the development of form, which
he considered to be the basis of the medium, his sculptural objects made out of meshes of wire
and metal rods give shape to structures characterised by linear expressiveness.
